The Story
Evo 12 was designed to revolutionize the user experience for high-quality set-top boxes by simplifying complex features into an intuitive interface. My role in the project was to help streamline navigation and functionality, ensuring users could access all the powerful tools without frustration. With a focus on improving usability, I worked closely with a large team over an 18-month period, solving key challenges such as search functionality and recording conflict resolution. These refinements enhanced how users interacted with the system, making it easier to navigate, find content, and resolve common issues.
A major part of my contribution was developing a reskinnable prototype in Flash, allowing the UI to be easily adapted for different brands. I also helped redesign global search, ensuring users could efficiently find content with advanced filters and suggestions. In addition, I tackled interaction design issues in features like conflict resolution, which gave users more flexibility when managing recordings. Throughout the project, I gained valuable insights into handling large-scale designs and learned how to create effective fixed-focus solutions in complex scenarios, helping establish Evo 12 as a leading choice in the set-top box market.
